Many of you who receive The Briefing have also signed up for one of the two 40-Day Fasts that we are mobilizing through TheCall in this season. The 40-Day Global Fast begins TODAY, February 19th, and runs through March 30th. The California Dreamin’ Fast starts next week on March 1st and continues through the anniversary of the Azusa Street Revival on April 9th. Throughout both of these fasts, we will focus on the release of the latter rain outpourings of the Holy Spirit, as prophesied in Joel 2, Hosea 6 and other passages. The California fast will also hone in on specific revelation for the state of California as an historic well of revival. The Briefing will be tracking on both of these threads to keep you posted of timely prophetic data and prayer updates along the way. For starters, today’s post highlights three main prayer objectives that we will steward together through this season. We’re excited to run with you in what we believe will be an accelerated time of Kingdom advancement.

THE BRIEFING 020 -THE GLOBAL FAST

Thank you for joining us in this 40-day Global Fast from February 19th through Good Friday, March 30th. Never before has the world seen such widespread hunger amongst God’s people to engage in fasting and join the cry of His heart for the nations of the earth.

Years ago Lou Engle had a defining dream in which the great guns of God were going forward into battle but they were held up and restrained by an old man in an old cart. Suddenly a company of soldiers in an amazing act of spiritual violence expelled the hindrance and the mighty guns of God were released to go to war. Instantly the scene changed and a scroll unfolded upon which it was written, “In yet 40 days I will send the rain!”

We sensed God revealing through this dream that the old man depicted old mindsets of doubt and unbelief that were restraining the prayers of the saints. It was clear to us that this kind of unbelief comes out only by prayer and fasting. Thus, we understood the 40-day fast to be an act of spiritual violence with power to dislodge and deploy from our hearts the very prayer of faith.

With this in mind, let us engage together in these days of fasting, with expectation of the glory of God going forth through us in battle. It’s a time to fix our gaze on the prophetic promises and position ourselves to open heaven’s gates. Over these next 40 days, we encourage you to feast on the meat of God’s word, spend extended time in worship and meditation, and allow the Lord to strengthen you in faith-filled intercession and declarations over the following purposes of His heart:

1. Pray for the latter rain outpourings of the Holy Spirit upon this generation.

Elijah was a man just like us… He prayed and the heavens gave rain, and the earth yielded its crops. James 5:18

The Lord will answer and say to His people, “Behold, I am going to send you grain, new wine and oil…” For He has given you the early rain for your vindication. And He has poured down for you the rain, the early and latter rain as before… “ Joel 2:19,23

2. Pray for the Ekballo-ing of laborers into the harvest fields of every nation.

In Matthew 9:38 Jesus instructed, “Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth laborers into his harvest." The word for send in the Greek is Ekballo. It’s not the ordinary word for send. It actually means "to violently thrust forth.” As we approach the days when the plowman will overtake the reaper, let us heed the words of Jesus and engage with him in faith for the greatest release of laborers that the world has ever seen.

3. Pray for Israel - for peace and salvation for both the land and its people.

The Lord of history has purposed days of great harvest to not only sweep in the fullness of the Gentiles, but to restore to himself the Jewish people. Let us pray for the fulfillment of Romans 11, that all Israel will be saved and return to their Messiah. Pray also for the peace of Jerusalem, for divine intervention concerning the nation and its borders, and for the restraining of Israel’s enemies.
