116 - An Elijah Showdown
Letter From the Editor:
Dear Friends,
Our team has returned from California and we’re continuing in prayer here in Colorado Springs. Though our 40-day fast is nearing its end, we’ll be unpacking the revelation with you for weeks to come. Meanwhile, I want to invite you into an urgent need for targeted intercession over the next six days. Would you pray with us for Lou Engle as he leads Communion and prayer at five very strategic Communion gatherings from today through April 6th, Passover? As you’re about to read below, the prophet Elijah was a man just like us, but he was called upon by God to intervene on behalf of the nation. We believe these coming gatherings of the ekklesia are likewise key to our nationwide turning. Thank you for your fastings and intercession. It’s making a difference in the nation and the earth.
– Cheryl Amabile
AN ELIJAH SHOWDOWN
“These are the days of Elijah” was the opening line of a worship song that swept the globe in 2002-2003. At the same time, TheCall was gathering tens of thousands of intercessors to stadiums in California to challenge the altars of Baal with corporate fasting and prayer. Many years and breakthroughs later (along with our share of setbacks), the national blood altar of abortion has been overturned in DC. There is a new level of authority that’s been gained by the saints. It feels like this could be a time of culmination for California as well - the place where Ahab makes his home and the prophets of Baal fill the airwaves with sounds and sights of debauchery. Are these the days of Elijah? If so, then something’s about to turn.
During our recent weeks of prayer on the Central Coast, Chris Berglund had a dream in which he saw the stone altar that Elijah built in 1 Kings 18. The altar was covered with a cloth. He soon realized it wasn’t an actual tablecloth, it was the robe of the High Priest laid out upon the altar. Chris noticed the twelve gemstones on the robe. He realized that Elijah had also fitted twelve large stones together to form the altar beneath it. Upon the robe was the bread and the wine of Communion. Elijah’s Altar was a Communion table! In the dream, Chris also began to see other altars of Communion springing up. They were similar to Elijah’s altar, as they too were made of stones, but they were covered with white tablecloths and upon each was the bread and the wine. As more and more of these Communion tables multiplied across the earth, Chris heard it said, “Building altars and opening wells.”
When we first heard the dream, we immediately thought two things: (1) This is a picture of the Great Communion Blood Revival that’s spreading across the earth, and (2) God is showing us that the Communion Table is an altar of confrontation with the powers of darkness. The other exciting reality is that the fire of God fell from heaven upon Elijah’s altar as a sign that God was turning the hearts of the people back to Him!
On Mount Carmel, Elijah set the stage for a showdown between Yahweh and the false god Baal. He gathered twelve large stones from a broken-down altar of prior generations. Each stone represented one of the twelve tribes of Israel, a nation that had been divided for the past 100 years. In Elijah’s day, Israel was unrecognizable from the times of his forefathers. The worship of God had been removed from the land and replaced with servitude to the Canaanite gods, of whom Baal was chief.
Under Baal, Israel’s children were now being burned alive as human sacrifices. This is how the Israelites tried to pacify the potential wrath of this “storm god” who was supposedly responsible for earthquakes, rain and drought. Baal was also known as the “god of fertility.” The worship of Baal required the people to engage in all kinds of sexual immorality with temple prostitutes in hopes that Baal might grant them fruitful crops.
The beliefs of ancient Israel may not seem relatable to the average American, but these principalities are still at work in our day. They are fallen angels without redemption, and their rebellion will be punished with damnation to the lake of fire (Mt 25:41). But until then, these spiritual beings strive to destroy mankind, the beloved of God, and to thwart Jehovah’s historic plan of redemption. Make no mistake, these blood-thirsty entities are alive and well, and Baal appears to be the foremost demonic ruler to have usurped the allegiance of this generation in America.
The modern practices of abortion, transgenderism, the surgical mutilation of bodies, and sexual immorality are not just individual acts or human choices. These are ritual practices that subject us to demonic entities. Dutch Sheets teaches that the number one legal grounds for authority to be given over to Baal has been the shedding of innocent blood. With over 64 million babies aborted in America since 1973, it’s no wonder the nation is experiencing the grip of this hostile principality.
Baal worship is now being legislated in our capitals, defended in our courts, flaunted in our streets, taught in our schools, celebrated in our songs and movies, and traded on our floors of commerce. At the same time, our civil platforms and mainstream media are increasingly demonizing Biblical Christianity as potential right-wing terrorism. Thus the ideologies that perpetuate this subjugation are tragically being established in the minds of a generation created to serve God. We believe the only solution is found at the table which the Lord has prepared for us in the presence of our enemies (Ps 23:5) - the Communion table.
Today, in Sacramento, the “city of the sacrament”, Hope California is holding an ekklesia gathering at the steps of the Capitol building. Lou Engle will be leading Communion there at the same place where he honored the blood during TheCall Sacramento in 2010. The gathering in 2010 was held on the 10-year anniversary of the original TheCall DC in 2000. We are not new to the battle.
These God-initiated sacred assemblies, prayer strikes, and extended fasts have had a mounting effect. Therefore, this week's gatherings are not on ground zero. We've come to a time and a place where the Lord has prepared us for a major showdown in the heavens. The bullock that Elijah placed on his altar was foreshadowing the same reality we are partaking of today in the bread and wine of Communion. These are not weak weapons. We come with the broken body and spilled blood of Jesus. Hell cannot withstand the very mention of His name.
We were once told in a dream that to save the nation we must turn California. Years ago, Cindy Jacobs prophesied that it would become a pro-life state. In 2019, Chris Reed was shown Los Angeles and southern California exploding with revival. He said that God was going to “shake her loose from the burdens and bonds of wickedness.” Chuck Pierce had a dream in 2019 in which he saw all of the 50 states turning red. He said that some liberal voices would rise up and shout “No” in defiance. But the Church was to rise up and “decree a thing to bring us back to the covenant roots of our nation.” He knew that this season of advancement and warfare would be set in motion when Roe v. Wade was overturned.
Meanwhile, Gavin Newsom, governor of California and potential presidential candidate, released an ad campaign last year promoting California as a sanctuary state for abortion. He is also trying to do the same for minors who want to have gender transitioning surgery. Newsom went as far as to quote Jesus’ own words in support of himself for helping his neighbors kill their babies. The governor may have just brought about his own political demise. In 1 Kings 21, when King Ahab and his wife Jezebel killed Naboth in order to steal his vineyard, Elijah went straight to Ahab in Naboth’s field and told him of his coming ruin because he had sold himself to do evil in the eyes of the Lord.
The Governor’s ad reads: Need an Abortion? California is ready to help. Mark 12:31, “Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no greater commandment than these.”
This weekend there will be multiple Hope California gatherings across the state. On Sunday, April 2nd, Lou will join Mando Matthews for prayer and Communion in Los Angeles, where he held TheCall LA in 2003 and Azusa Now in 2016. As the blood of Jesus is exalted over these gateway cities, we are contending for powers and principalities to fall, for a great jailbreak for those caught in lifestyles of addiction and immorality, and for a fresh wave of revival and awakening to break forth.
Then, on the eve of Passover, Wed, April 5th, please join us for a National Communion Service hosted in Oregon. It will be livestreamed for all to join. Let's exalt the body and blood of Jesus together and believe for Him to answer with the fire of the Holy Spirit as he turns the hearts of this nation back to Him again.
